Just Riding

Between the weather and our hectic schedule, we have not been able to ride as much as we would like this spring. This weekend we finally got a chance to get on the bike and just ride. We left Alma, Arkansas Saturday morning with another couple, and rode to Hwy 23, "The Pig Trail". What a great ride! The twisties are just right, and the traffic was light. After that we hit Hwy 16 east to Hwy 7 and rode up to Harrison. Then we headed east on 14 to the Peel Ferry. That was a first for us. We took the ferry across to Missouri, and rode some great sweeping curves up there before heading back west to Branson, and back to Harrison. Just outside of Harrison, at the site of the old Dog Patch amusement park is "The Hub". It has been turned into a biker retreat. What a great atmosphere.
Just sitting around in the evening talking to other bikers until bed time!

The next day we rode to Eureka Springs, and on to the little town of Beaver, home of the Arkansas Golden Gate Bridge. It is a unique site, that few people know about. After a rest, and some picture taking, we were off again, back through Eureka Springs, and heading to War Eagle Mill. There you can watch them grind at the mill, buy your freshly ground wheat, etc. or eat a wonderful meal. Their breakfast is especially good, but we also liked their soup and sandwiches.

After that it was time to start toward home...taking the long way of course. We were about 30 miles from home when we spotted that big dark rain cloud. We had dodged rain all weekend, but it got us that time. We put on our Frogg Toggs (which we see at Cow Polk's) and headed to the first covered rest area. How surprised we were to find some of our friends there waiting it out too. We got to visit with them around 45 minutes as we waited for the sky to clear. Finally, it cleared up and we were home. The weekend was wonderful, too short of course. Now we're ready to do it again. Unfortunately, we work most Saturdays, so it is just something to look forward to in the future.

In a few weeks we will be doing some good riding again, as we will be at the International Volusia Rally in Eureka Springs. This is a rally especially for Suzuki Volusia and Boulevard riders, but all bikes are welcome. We no longer have our Volusia, but we look forward to the visit and rides with our friends we have met over the years. For more information about the rally you can call us here at 479-474-0332.
